On ICAN PROFESSIONAL

The acronym ICAN stands for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
A member of the Institute is called a Chartered Accountant. You can be a full member if you can successfully pass and complete all the Courses as applicable in all stages.

The degree of any University or Higher National Diploma of any Polytechnic recognized by ICAN regardless of the Course studied.

Examinations are conducted in May and November each year.

The Examination is made up of 3-Parts Structure with 15 Subjects (Foundation, Skills, & Professionals). All graduates of accounting from ICAN recognized Institutions start from the Skills Level.

While it is necessary to prepare appropriately for the Exam in order to get good scores, the general pass mark is 50%. There is no grade allocation like first class, second class upper or lower etc.

Only some specific Accounting related courses and Professional courses are granted exemption from either the Foundation stage or part of it and /or some or all the courses in Skill Stage. This include among others: ATSWA, Insurance, Economics, Law, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Economics, Business Admin, ACCA UK, CIMA UK etc. Study the Exemption Guidelines in the Syllabus or on the website to determine your Exemption.

Any recognized University degree or Higher National Diploma of any Polytechnic in any Course or discipline can write ICAN.
